| Abstract |
"During the 1919 rice crisis in Malaya, Chop Ban Hin Lee along with most rice importers were under significant pressure. Angry mobs accused Chor Ee a Japanese National, an allegation which he quickly refuted by putting a notice in the Chinese newspaper to disclaim it. To set the record straight and with the help of M. Saravanamuttu (editor of Straits Echo), he applied a Malayan citizenship and only to be granted one in 1935." - Notes from the donor |

"In 2004, Yeap Leong Huat, grandson of Yeap Chor Ee, funded a research team comprising historians and translators to trace the Yeap family genealogy. The search brought the team to various locations in China and took over two years to unearth the complete family ‘Jiapu’ or Book of Generations. It took another two years to compile and translate the data. The research has led to the recording of close to 3000 names from 117 generations dating all the way back to 2500 years ago to the first progenitor." - Notes from the donor |
