Smythea lanceata is a critically endangered climber in Singapore (Chong et al., 2009). This species has become locally rare as most of Singapore’s back mangrove habitats have been destroyed for land development. |

Abstract |
This seems to be the first compilation of the diversity of terrestrial and amphibious snakes on Saint John’s Island. It consists of species that occur on coral fringed sea-shores (yellow-lipped sea krait), coastal forests (gold-ringed cat snake) and around human habitation (reticulated python, brahminy blind snake, paradise gliding snake, painted bronzeback and house wolf snake). The snake fauna is similar to that of Semakau Landfill (Chua, 2011: 281-282), but without the banded file snake Acrochordus granulatus, the dog-faced water snake Cerberus schneiderii, [as Cerberus rynchops] and the shore pit-viper Cryptelytropspurpureomaculatus. The brahminy blind snake, paradise gliding snake and painted bronzeback were not recorded from Semakau. |

Abstract |
Snyder’s sandperch or U-mark sandperch (Parapercis snyderi) is a relatively small species that grows to 11 cm in total length. It is relatively short-bodied with truncate caudal fin, partially blackish first dorsal fin, and five brown and often u-shaped saddle blotches along its back. The species occurs in the western Pacific from Korea and southern Japan to northern Australia (Allen & Erdmann, 2012: 757; Randall, 2001: 3509). This seems to be the first record of Snyder’s sandperch in Singapore waters |

Abstract |
The soft-bottom fauna of feather stars (Comatulida) and their associated symbionts of Halong Bay (Gulf of Tonkin, northern Vietnam) are described. Five species from four families were found, of which three were recorded from the Gulf of Tonkin for the first time; two species, Capillaster gracilicirrus and Oligometra serripinna, are new records for the coast of Vietnam. These findings extend the list of crinoids living in the Gulf to 10 species and the list of Vietnam crinoids to 71 species. Four species belonging to three families represent the first records of feather stars on sediment substrates in Vietnamese waters. One species, O. serripinna, was found attached to gorgonians. |
